Synopsis

Akanishi to perform in Los Angeles, rest of KAT-TUN to tour Asia
Johnny's Jimusho made two announcements on Wednesday regarding popular boy band KAT-TUN. First, the group will be doing an Asia tour this year. Second, member Jin Akanishi (25) will not be participating in the tour, and will instead be preparing for a set of solo concerts in Los Angeles.
KAT-TUN's tour is scheduled to run from May to August. Most of the concerts will be in Japan, but a few of them will be held overseas. They will perform in Bangkok on July 31, in Seoul on August 6-7, and in Taipei on August 27-28. Other sources say that a Hawaii concert is also being considered.
However, Akanishi is expected to leave for Los Angeles in May to prepare for three concerts on June 19-20. These will be the first solo performances in the U.S. by a Johnny's artist.
This is not the first time that Akanishi has been to Los Angeles. From 2006 to 2007, he took a break from show business and spent half a year there to study English.
After a solo performance in February, Akanishi received an offer from American cable channel UTB, which focuses on Japanese programs. At the time, KAT-TUN's Asia tour had already been finalized, but after discussions with the other members and agency president Johnny Kitagawa, it was decided that the tour would go on without Akanishi. He agreed to three concerts on June 19-20 at the Club Nokia venue at the L.A. Live complex. It is said that he will perform the shows entirely in English.
Akanishi is expected to remain in Los Angeles until October. He will be involved in promotional activities and is considering additional U.S. concerts.

Tomohisa Yamashita to Show Boxing Skill in Legendary "Tomorrow's Joe"
It is announced that the legendary boxing comic "Tomorrow's Joe (あしたのジョー)" will be adapted into the live-action movie starring Tomohisa Yamashita (山下智久) of NEWS after an interval of 20 years. The movie will have its premiere in the next spring. The character of Tange Danpei (丹下段平) who finds out the talent of Joe will be played by Teruyuki Kagawa (香川照之)
Yamashita revealed that he used to be interested in boxing and always go to gym after work. About the movie, Yamashita made his promise: "I will try my best not to hurt the great work and spare no effort in anything I can do." Later in this month, he will start boxing exercising and begin shooting from April.
When they had the first gathering last month, they tried an impromptu shadow-boxing with Yamashita punching and Kagawa taking defense. Their boxing was well-received and their boxing seemed to begin to take shape.
According to the producer, he gave this offer to Yamashita about one year ago in consideration of his athletic competence and good performance in the drama such "Code Blue (コード・ブルー)". "This is a plan can not be completed without Yamashita-kun. With his physical beauty, Yamashita can depict Joe's strong will and charming personality as well." said the producer, "I want to show the story of a young man who stands up with his own strength to today's young people."
"Tomorrow's Joe" had been serial published for 6 years since 1968 on "Weekly Shonen Magazine/週刊少年マガジン". This comic was so influential in the society then that when Rikiishi Tohru, the rival of Joe, died in the story, people held a real funeral for him. It has been sold more than 20 million copies in total.
It was adapted into a live-action movie for the first time in 1970 and starred Shoji Ishibashi (石橋正次). The main stage of the movie this time will be set at a place with 5,000 square meters in the suburbs of Tokyo. The movie will combine the latest CG technology with actors' movement, and you may be able to see Joe's unique skill, crossing counter, in real. Other casts will be announced later according to the schedule.

Kansai Johnny's Jr. to Rotate in a School Drama from April!
It is announced that 10 members out of Kansai Johnny's Jr., a group working based in Kansai, are to be casting in a new drama one member per week.
Kanjani Jr. (関ジャニJr.) has produced a great number of excellent Johnny's idols, such as the main force unit Kanjani∞ and Yuma Nakayama (中山優馬). After two dramas, "DRAMATIC-J" and "DORAMADA-J", it is their third time to play in a drama in the same TV station. The title of the new drama is to be decided yet, and is temporarily titled "Dare mo shiranai J Gakuen(誰も知らないJ学園, lit. J School that No One Knows)", and will be aired in Kansai TV from April.
It will be a school drama with 10 episodes and each episode lasts 30 minutes. In the 1st episode "Gakko no Kaidan (学校の階段, lit. Stairs of the school)", Akito Kiriyama (桐山照史) will play the role of a hot-blooded new teacher. In 2008, he played as a student in the drama "Gokusen Season 3" and attracted large attention. "I haven't tried a character who is 'serious' by now. Sometimes I can feel that each person has different performance and skills. I want not only young people but also teachers and seniors will watch my performance. There will be surprise guest as well! Don't miss out." commented by Kiriyama.
The drama will start from 1:30 in the night of April 28th. After the top batter Kiriyama, other 9 members will appear in turn in each episode. 8 members have been decided by now. New star of Johnny's may be born from the late night drama. Keep your eye on them!
